Diabetes Mellitus Clinical Presentation
Hyperglycemia is the most common symptom associated with diabetes. Mild episodes of hyperglycemia frequently occur during prediabetes and the early stages of diabetes, but patients are often asymptomatic. As a result, obtaining a diagnosis may be delayed for many years if routine screening is not performed during regular healthcare visits. Risk Factors and Complications
Certain risk factors may increase an individual’s risk for developing diabetes, and these factors can be categorized as nonmodifiable or modifiable. Examples of nonmodifiable risk factors include genetics, gender, ethnicity, and age. Examples of modifiable risk factors include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and diet. Undiagnosed and/or poorly controlled diabetes is associated with a plethora of complications that can be further classified as microvascular or macrovascular. Read more.
