ADEs Most Common With Cardiovascular Medications in Outpatients

Limited information is available on adverse drug events (ADEs) in outpatients, even though considerable data exist for hospitalized patients. A study led by researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston and published in BMJ Quality & Safety sought to remedy that, finding approximately 5% of more than 13,000 outpatients experienced an ADE. Addressing Modifiable Risk Factors Could Avoid Half of U.S. Cancer Deaths

A surprising study result suggests that one-half of all U.S. cancer deaths could be prevented by modifiable factors, many involving vaccinations and medications, such as smoking cessation products. A new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine evaluated the safety and effectiveness of three common medications and found that apixaban was less likely than rivaroxaban and warfarin to be linked to major hemorrhage events.
